While in Spain Amerigo Vespucci began working on ships and ultimately went on his first expedition as a navigator in 1499. This expedition reached the mouth of the Amazon River and explored the coast of South America. On his second voyage in 1501 Amerigo Vespucci sailed under the Portuguese flag. After leaving Lisbon it took Vespucci 64 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean due to light winds. His ships followed the South American coast to within 400 miles of the southern tip Tierra del Fuego. While on this voyage Vespucci wrote two letters to a friend in Europe. He described his travels and was the first to identify the New World of North and South America as separate from Asia. (Until he died Columbus thought he had reached Asia.) The Gallery writing instruments are the fruit of Delta’s traditional handicraft. This collection produced from a special multicolor resin is turned by hand from solid rods. Gallery collection renders homage to Drip painting, a form of abstract art in which paint is dripped or poured onto the canvas. This painting style has been used since 1946 by various famous Americans artists who defined it as: ” expressive power through material outbreaks in a frenetic vortex of signs. The Gallery collection is available in tow versions which are set apart by the cap; one offers the cap in this multicolor resin and the other offers the cap in black resin (Doue’). Trimmings are plated in either rhodium or 24Kt gold. Both versions offer the central ring is solid sterling silver 925%. This is the same ring that characterizes the Dolcevita collection and that offers that “family feeling” common in many of Delta collections. This ring is engraved by hand and reproduces an old Roman de’cor featured in old paintings from Pompei. A Delta logo is positioned in the top of cap. The clip featuring a Gallery offers a 14-karat solid gold nib particularly designed, customized and flexible.
