Today, the total number of Sami is estimated to be about 75,000 of which 20,000 live in Sweden. To be Lapp meant to be a person that was a breeder of reindeer, a fisherman and a hunter. The pastures are considered today the more important resource on which the traditional culture stands. For centuries the majority population has had a patronizing attitude towards the Sami, which has affected cultural policy and politics. The current and official policy was adopted in 1963 and is expressed in the Parliamentary Records as follows: The policy of the national state must be to give the Sami-speaking population the opportunity to preserve its language and other cultural customs on terms that accord with the expressed wishes of the Sami themselves. Although the Sami population is not constituted in an independent state, it possesses a representative body, the Sami Parliament; a capital, Karasjok, and their own flag. The second collection offered in the Velazquez series. VELASQUEZ, DIEGO RODRIGUEZ DE SILVAY- (1599-1660) Spanish painter considered to be the maximum exponent of the baroque style. Named official painter of Philip IV, lived a period of intense activity as a portrait painter and favored by the members of the real family and the court. In 1627, Philip set a competition of the best painters of Spain with the subject to be the expulsion of the Moors. Velazquez won. In 1629, as an extra payment, he received 100 ducats for the picture of Bacchus. The spirit and aim of this work are better understood from its Spanish name, Los Borrachos (The Drunks), who are paying mock homage to a half-naked ivy-crowned young man seated on wine barrel. The painting is firm and solid, and the light and shade are more deftly handled than in former works. Altogether, this production may be taken as the most advanced example of the first style of Velazquez. Delta pays tribute to Velazquez’s painting “The Triumph of Baco”, but the town later called it “Los Borrachos.” It is a limited edition and each piece is numbered. Named official painter of Philip IV, lived a period of intense activity as a portrait painter and favored by the members of the real family and the court. In 1629, as an extra payment, he received 100 ducats for the picture of Bacchus. The spirit and aim of this work are better understood from its Spanish name, Los Borrachos (The Drunks), who are paying mock homage to a half-naked ivy-crowned young man seated on wine barrel. The painting is firm and solid, and the light and shade are more deftly handled than in former works. Altogether, this production may be taken as the most advanced example of the first style of Velazquez. Delta pays tribute to Velazquez’s painting “The Triumph of Baco”, but the town later called it “Los Borrachos.” It is a limited edition and each piece is numbered. The Gallery writing instruments are the fruit of Delta’s traditional handicraft. This collection produced from a special multicolor resin is turned by hand from solid rods. Gallery collection renders homage to Drip painting, a form of abstract art in which paint is dripped or poured onto the canvas. This painting style has been used since 1946 by various famous Americans artists who defined it as: ” expressive power through material outbreaks in a frenetic vortex of signs. While in Spain Amerigo Vespucci began working on ships and ultimately went on his first expedition as a navigator in 1499. This expedition reached the mouth of the Amazon River and explored the coast of South America. On his second voyage in 1501 Amerigo Vespucci sailed under the Portuguese flag. After leaving Lisbon it took Vespucci 64 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean due to light winds. His ships followed the South American coast to within 400 miles of the southern tip Tierra del Fuego. While on this voyage Vespucci wrote two letters to a friend in Europe. He described his travels and was the first to identify the New World of North and South America as separate from Asia. (Until he died Columbus thought he had reached Asia.)
