Description

The Custom 845 is the newest series to launch in the Custom line of fountain pens for the United States. The Custom line was first introduced by Pilot in 1971 to create a range of fountain pens that are truly tailored to the users writing preferences. Each series in the Custom line offers distinctive benefits, ranging from nib sizes to ink reservoir/converters to body style or size. The Custom 845 is extremely popular worldwide because of its unique Urushi lacquer finish, two-toned 18k gold nib (size #15) and large barrel size. A Pilot Con-70 converter is included, but you can also use proprietary Pilot ink cartridges if you prefer. This exceptional Custom fountain pen is packaged in an elegant gift box.
Urushi lacquer comes from the sap of the Asian lacquer tree. When applied to the pen barrel, it hardens and absorbs moisture from the air, resulting in a shiny coat. Creating an Urushi lacquer fountain pen is an exacting and complex process because the lacquer must be carefully applied to the pen barrel in numerous hand painted layers. This traditional Japanese technique ultimately enhances both the pens’ beauty and longevity. Urushi coating will withstand corrosion from water, acids, alcohol, and even temperature changes, making the Custom 845 the perfect pen to use every day and pass down to future generations.

The Sami people, more known as the Lap (Lapp), inhabit the extreme north of the Scandinavian Peninsula and, besides being the only native population in Europe (in Lapland there are traces of Sami going back to the ice Age, approximately 9600 years ago is one of the scarcest. Today, the total number of Sami is estimated to be about 75,000 of which 20,000 live in Sweden. To be Lapp meant to be a person that was a breeder of reindeer, a fisherman and a hunter. The pastures are considered today the more important resource on which the traditional culture stands. For centuries the majority population has had a patronizing attitude towards the Sami, which has affected cultural policy and politics. The current and official policy was adopted in 1963 and is expressed in the Parliamentary Records as follows: The policy of the national state must be to give the Sami-speaking population the opportunity to preserve its language and other cultural customs on terms that accord with the expressed wishes of the Sami themselves. Although the Sami population is not constituted in an independent state, it possesses a representative body, the Sami Parliament; a capital, Karasjok, and their own flag. The Limited Edition comprises 1963 roller balls (R/2) in 925% sterling silver. The rollerball version is easily convertible into a ballpoint pen. Delta’s limited edition is crafted from hand-turned resins capturing the colors of the flag – bright blue red yellow and green. Vespucci was born in 1454 to a prominent family in Florence Italy. As a young man he read widely and collected books and maps. While in Spain Amerigo Vespucci began working on ships and ultimately went on his first expedition as a navigator in 1499. This expedition reached the mouth of the Amazon River and explored the coast of South America. On his second voyage in 1501 Amerigo Vespucci sailed under the Portuguese flag. After leaving Lisbon it took Vespucci 64 days to cross the Atlantic Ocean due to light winds. His ships followed the South American coast to within 400 miles of the southern tip Tierra del Fuego. While on this voyage Vespucci wrote two letters to a friend in Europe. He described his travels and was the first to identify the New World of North and South America as separate from Asia. (Until he died Columbus thought he had reached Asia.) The collection Classic in the form very exclusive in the characterization Amerigo Vespucci is offered as a limited edition of only 931 pieces in each version.
